American Flag Series
The concept behind the Flag Collection is simple - superimposing significant speeches of key figures onto their national flags. The Flags are part of a limited edition series of 25 prints
The first 3 flags are of American leaders - some of which I agree with, one of which I dont. They were created at a time when the War in Afghanistan was on my mind and wanted to juxtapose the thinking of George W Bush with leaders from the past - JFK & MLK
Shown together as a triptych - they provoke and encourage discussion.
Martin Luther King, Jr.
Inspired by the great "I have a dream" speech. The great oratory of Martin Luther King Jr filled the nation with hope. This flag is an extract from the speech with Doves replacing the Stars.
MLK gave the "I Have a dream speech" not the "I have a plan speech" - Politicians take note.

The King Memorial by Lei Yixin, a Chinese sculptor
John F Kennedy
Inspired by the great "Ask not what you country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" speech.
In our home in Achill placed up beside the picture of the pope was a picture of John F Kennedy and his brother Bobby. The picture of the Kennedy's and listening to the famous speech triggered the idea of the Flag Collection. The text on the flag is an extract from the speech.
